BIOGRAPHY

Matyas Pavlik, born in Czech Republic 1984, was raised between the United States and Mexico. Both parents being glass sculpture artist, he has been surrounded by glass & art from day one. Exposed to multiple cultures, landscapes and languages, the diverse colors and approaches would shape his personality as well as his style.

While studying graphic design at the University of San Francisco, he spent a semester at the Prague University of Art, Architecture & Design. This is where he found his passion for hands-on work with clay and plaster, and became mesmerized by the boundless possibilities of kiln casting. In order to learn the skill of cast glass – a method developed in Northern Bohemia’s region of Zelezny Brod – he moved to Czech Republic and started working beside his mother, Vladimira Klumpar.

In 2012, Matyas joined the design project “M.O.M” (Moje Objektove Muze), acquainting him with the Czech heritage of glass-making & cutting. Captivated by the craftsmanship of this vanishing applied art, he began incorporating traditional cutting techniques into his conceptual cast glass sculptures.

The focus of Matyas' work lies in exploring the medium of glass through varied density within abstract shapes, the way light gets broken, redirected or absorbed and using an organic, yet vibrant color palette.
